Most caravans and motorhomes operate on a 12 volt or 24 volt system which are charged by the vehicle’s alternator while the engine is running. Otherwise they use a 230 volt battery charger to maintain the battery when connected to the electricity grid. In a remote location, however, 230 volts is rarely available. Without an alternative power supply, running the engine or running a generator is the only way to keep the batteries charged.
